The opening was quite a buzz!

A cocktail reception was followed by the inauguration speech of festival director Mac Chakaveh and the owner of the cinema (Teatro Goya in Puerto Banus). They shared their vision for Marbella being known not simply as a great holiday destination but also a cultural hub as well as an optimal location for local and international film production.

A lot of people attended the red carpet screening of “The Bridge to Paradise”, a heart-warming and tear-jerking documentary about Syrian refugees, and the post-refugee era. The filmmakers came all the way from China (along with their interpreter!) to attend the festival.

While it was not the most uplifting topic, I think it’s important to raise awareness about these issues.

As for me, I was also busy handing out badges to our guests and participants. It’s been my second year working at the festival and there is always a lot to do of course. At the same time, it is such an amazing opportunity to gain insight into the film industry, make business connections and new friends, and meet talented filmmakers from all around a world.
